About our Delivery Suite

Our Labour Ward provides a safe, supportive environment for people to birth in, whether they are planning a midwifery-led or consultant-led birth. We are committed to providing expert, compassionate care that respects your birth preferences while ensuring the safety and wellbeing of you and your baby.

Our services:

  • Two midwifery-led birthing rooms both offering a pool and en-suite bathroom. These rooms both have a birthing couch instead of a bed.
  • Eight consultant-led birthing rooms equipped with beds that support active birthing positions and enhanced monitoring facilities where required .All of these rooms have en-suite bathroom facilities.
  • One birthing pool is available in the consultant-led unit for use in labour. This room is for those who have been recommended to have  additional monitoring or obstetric care. This room has an en-suite bathroom.
  • Flexible, personalised care that adapts to your needs throughout labour.
  • Floor mats, birthing balls and peanut balls are available in all rooms, along with a limited supply of fairy lights, speakers and battery candles.
  • You’re welcome to bring anything that will help create the right environment for you — please just bear in mind that naked flames aren't permitted. Have a chat with your midwife if you'd like any guidance.

Your care team

We have a dedicated team of experienced healthcare professionals, including obstetricians, midwives, maternity support workers, anaesthetists, a dedicated theatre team and neonatal specialists, with input from other services as required.

Working collaboratively, we provide compassionate, round-the-clock care focused on supporting your birth experience and ensuring the health and wellbeing of you and your baby.

Visitor Guidelines

  • One birth partner and one support person are welcome to support you  whilst you are on the labour ward at any time during labour and birth. These must be the same two people throughout — no swapping. Your birth partner will be given a wristband to wear so they are easily identifiable.
  • Any person on labour ward requiring 1:1 care not related to labour or birth will only be permitted to have one dedicated person with them.
  • There are no other visitors permitted at any time in the Labour Ward, including your own children.
  • Once you are transferred to the postnatal ward, only your birth partner may stay with you. Your support person can visit during visiting times on the ward.
  • Read and follow our infection control guidelines (see below).
