About us

Acute medicine is the specialty concerned with the diagnosis, management and non-surgical treatment of unusual or serious diseases. In our Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit, we provide facilities to maximise treatment of emergency medical patients on the same day, without need for full admission. Our Same Day Emergency Care is a seven-day service that provides an innovative ambulatory care facility for medical patients.

We assess, diagnose and treat many patients in Same Day Emergency Care that do not require the services of the Emergency Department unit but need to be seen by an emergency doctor or specialist. We manage our patients in a timely and clinically appropriate way with fast access to assessment and investigations without admission to a hospital bed at all or for admission for only a number of hours.

You may be referred to Same Day Emergency Care by your GP, from the emergency department streaming assessment or an outpatient clinic.
