Staff Benefits

In addition to great career prospects and job satisfaction, a career with Royal Surrey offers a wide range of extra benefits. Please see below more information on the many benefits we offer.

NHS Pension Scheme

The NHS Pension Scheme continues to be one of the most generous and comprehensive pension arrangements in the UK and is a key part of the reward offer for NHS staff. An NHS pension includes life assurance benefits, voluntary early retirement benefits, ill health benefits and a range of other benefits.

Employee contributions are tiered by salary/pensionable earnings and your employer pays a contribution equal to 20.68 per cent of your salary towards the cost of your pension. Contributions to the scheme are tax free, bringing down the cost of membership.

Information and advice is available at the NHS Pensions Page here.

Salary Finance

Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust are dedicated to supporting colleagues' financial wellbeing and believe it’s important to have access to the right kind of support in order to learn better habits and make more informed money choices.

Through the Salary Finance website, Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust colleagues have access to:

  • Loans repaid through your salary - options when it comes to borrowing money repaid straight from your salary
  • Simple savings - options to build savings for the future, including the government-backed Help to Save scheme
  • Clarity on your cash - an online financial education hub including podcasts, articles and tools to help you manage money better

Wagestream

We have launched a new financial wellness and flexible pay system called Wagestream, which you can access here.

Supported by the Royal Surrey Charity this new system will allow staff across all staff groups and pay/grade bands (permanent and Bank) to access up to 50% of their salary in advance.

You can read more information about Wagestream here.

Annual leave and maternity/paternity leave

NHS employees are entitled to up to 27 days a year annual leave plus eight public and general holidays. After five years, this rises to 29 days a year and after ten years service, staff get up to 33 days holiday a year plus eight general and public holidays (pro rata for part time staff).

Maternity and paternity leave

We operate a scheme that allows time off for each of the above, including a 'Keep in Touch' scheme, a maternity/paternity pack and assistance in finding childcare and applying for tax credits. Maternity/paternity returnees are also encouraged to consider applying for flexible working if appropriate.

Childcare

Flexible working

We understand you have a life outside work, maybe a family to care for or an elderly relative. We realise the importance of striking a work life balance and actively seek, wherever possible, to offer hours and patterns of work that suit your personal circumstances.

Research and innovation opportunities

Research, development and innovation are vital to the future of healthcare.

At Royal Surrey, we encourage all of our clinical professionals to be research active, and to always strive to find new and innovative solutions to the challenges they face.

As a major centre for research in the Surrey, West Sussex and Hampshire region, we have invested in the infrastructure and systems needed to support researchers and research-active clinicians.

We work very closely with our neighbours at the University of Surrey on a number of innovative research studies, and we are the host Trust for the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network for Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
