Where to go for your procedure

Your appointment letter will tell you which of our surgery locations you need to go to for your procedure. All locations are within Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford.

Getting to the Day Surgery Unit

The Day Surgery Unit is located at the rear of the hospital, behind the Nuffield Health building.

Day Surgery Unit patient parking

We advise that you arrange to be dropped off and collected by a responsible adult on the day of your procedure. 

There are five Day Surgery Unit patient parking spaces available directly outside the unit entrance in rear car park, with up to two cars able to double-park - please inform reception if you need to do this.

If the Day Surgery Unit spaces are unavailable, please use the main patient car park at the front of the hospital (see walking directions below).

Driving directions to the DSU

  • Enter the rear car park from Edgerton Road, turning into the hospital site at the mini-roundabout.
  • Follow the road as it bears right, then veers left.
  • Continue straight past the Cancer Centre entrance (on your left).
  • At the car park fork, you will see the DSU on your left.
  • Park in one of the five spaces marked 'DSU'.

Note: If all DSU spaces are occupied, up to two additional vehicles may double-park. Please inform reception if you need to do this.

Walking directions from the main hospital entrance

  • Face the main entrance doors and turn left.
  • Follow the path towards the West Wing entrance and Cancer Centre.
  • Continue along the path as it curves left, passing the Cancer Centre on your right.
  • Walk past the Nuffield Health building on your right.
  • Turn immediately right after the Nuffield building, walking alongside the Nuffield car park (on your left).
  • At the rear of the Nuffield building, turn right.
  • The Day Surgery Unit entrance is at the back of the Nuffield building, immediately on your right.

Surgical Short Stay Unit

How to find us

The Surgical Short Stay Unit is a standalone building located at the front corner of our Guildford hospital, adjacent to Edgerton Road.

Walking directions from the main hospital entrance

  • Stand facing the main entrance doors.
  • Turn right and follow the path towards Edgerton Road.
  • Pass the Emergency Department on your left.
  • Continue straight until the road curves right.
  • Cross at the pedestrian crossing and continuing along the covered walkway towards Edgerton Road.
  • Walk past:
    • Same Day Emergency Care building on your left
    • Guildford Borough Council Ward on your right.
  • The Surgical Short Stay Unit on your left.

Elective Surgery Unit

How to find us

The Elective Surgery Unit (ESU) is located in the Surgical Short Stay Unit, a standalone building located at the front corner of our Guildford hospital, adjacent to Edgerton Road.

  • Turn right and follow the path towards Edgerton Road.
  • Pass the Emergency Department on your left.
  • Continue straight until the road curves right.
  • Cross at the pedestrian crossing and continuing along the covered walkway towards Edgerton Road.
  • Walk past:       
    • Same Day Emergency Care building on your left.
    • Guildford Borough Council Ward on your right.
  • The Surgical Short Stay Unit on your left – use this reception desk to register your arrival at the Elective Surgery Unit.

Oral and Maxillofacial Minor Operations

How to find us

Location: West Wing, Level B (main entrance level), Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford.

Walking directions from the main entrance

  • Walk straight ahead past the reception desk on your right.

  • Continue past M&S on your left until the corridor becomes a T-junction.

  • You’ll see a hospital map on the wall directly in front of you — use this if you need to reorient yourself.

Head to the East Wing:

  • Turn right towards the East Wing.

  • Walk past the Early Pregnancy Unit, lift lobby, and control room (all on your right).

  • Follow the overhead directional signs and turn right into the corridor marked 'Oral & Maxillofacial Minor Operations'.

  • The Maxillofacial unit is the first corridor on your right.

How to find us

Location: Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford, with a separate entrance.

  • Turn left and walk along the path in front of the hospital.
  • Follow the path around the hospital building as it curves right.
  • The Stokes Centre will be on your right.
