Acute medicine is the specialty concerned with the diagnosis, management and non-surgical treatment of unusual or serious diseases. In our Ambulatory Emergency Care area (AEC), we provide facilities to maximise treatment of emergency medical patients on the same day, without need for full admission. Our Ambulatory Emergency Care is a seven-day service that provides an innovative ambulatory care facility for medical patients.
We assess, diagnose and treat many patients in Ambulatory Emergency Care that do not require the services of the Emergency Department unit but need to be seen by an emergency doctor or specialist. We manage our patients in a timely and clinically appropriate way with fast access to assessment and investigations without admission to a hospital bed at all or for admission for only a number of hours.
You may be referred to Ambulatory Emergency Care by your GP, from the emergency department streaming assessment or an outpatient clinic.
Normal visiting times have changed due to Covid-19. You may arrange a visit by contacting the ward and booking an appointment. The ward will complete a risk assessment for each visitor.
Visiting times are 2pm-8pm, Monday-Sunday.
