May 2018: We are delighted that after our recent CQC inspection, our Maternity Service was rated as OUTSTANDING and the hospital received GOOD overall!

Our staff were described as an energetic and ambitious workforce who took accountability and ownership for changes within the department. It was also noted that staff were responsive to patients’ requests, with adjustments being made where possible to allow patients with specific individual needs to access care.

Jacqui Tingle, our Head of Midwifery told us “The staff who work in maternity are extremely proud of the outstanding accreditation from the CQC. The teams work really hard every day putting women at the centre of their care. We have achieved a lot in the last year being responsive to the needs of women and their families and are delighted that this was recognised by the CQC inspection team”

July 2018: After rigourous assessment we have been awarded The Unicef Baby Friendly GOLD Award!

The Royal Surrey Maternity Department is one of only four organisations in the county to be awarded the UNICEF’s Baby Friendly Gold Award. We have maintained our Baby Friendly accreditation for twenty years but this new award recognises that the Baby Friendly Standards, and the high quality care they represent, are embedding within the departments culture and values.
