Congratulations to Wissam Abou-Chedid, Consultant Urological Surgeon, who recently performed a clipless Retzius-sparing robotic prostatectomy to a worldwide audience at the 45th Annual Meeting of the International Society of Urology (SIU).
The congress, held in Edinburgh, brought together urologists, researchers, nurses, and industry leaders from across the globe, who watched Wissam’s live-streamed surgery from Royal Surrey.
Using one of the trust’s four state-of-the-art da Vinci robotic systems, Wissam performed a minimally invasive prostatectomy, which was viewed by over 2,500 urologists worldwide.
Wissam said: “I’m really proud to have taken part in the live streaming event for such a far-reaching audience. It’s a privilege to showcase our team’s work and to highlight the world-class robotic surgery being delivered at Royal Surrey.
Royal Surrey hosts seven experienced robotic urologists, in addition to high-volume robotic teams across multiple specialties. The trust continues to lead nationally in robotic surgery and innovation — including day-case prostatectomy, self-removal of catheters by patients, and high-intensity theatre lists.
Royal Surrey is also the first hospital in the UK to acquire the Histolog® device, allowing real-time intraoperative assessment of surgical margins during prostatectomy.
With 10× magnified 3D vision and exceptional precision, robotic surgery enables reduced blood loss and faster recovery, ensuring patients receive the highest standard of minimally invasive care.
