Royal Surrey has been commended as the UK’s top recruiter for a clinical research trial aimed at treating patients with lung cancer.
The Trust is the first site in the UK to recruit a patient to the global trial and has now added four subsequent patients, more than double its original target.
Dr Ali Suwaidan, Consultant Medical Oncologist, and Divisional Research Lead for Oncology (pictured above centre) said: “We’re thrilled to be taking part in this remarkable and exciting trial. It’s fantastic to see our centre leading the way for the trial nationally. We definitely benefit at Royal Surrey from the amazing teamwork and spirit of our staff, who are very proactive and always go above and beyond to create the best experience for our patients.
“I would like to congratulate the Chief Investigator for the trial, Dr Ajay Mehta, who has done the major work on this study. He is an inspiration. He frequently comes to our clinics to let myself and my colleagues know about the latest studies that are available and the patients we could recruit to take part. Additionally, there is a real vision and great leadership within the department to move research forward to benefit our patients.
“I would also like to thank the other principal investigators on this trial, as well as the research delivery team on the ground, whose hard work and dedication made this achievement possible.”
