Royal Surrey’s Liver Health Check team will be out in the community in May, offering mobile screening appointments.

They will be visiting Westborough Church, Guildford, on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 May from 8am-6pm, and the Forest Community Centre, Bordon, on Tuesday 26 May from 8am-4pm.

The Liver Health Check van enables clinical staff to offer a simple, non-invasive test to people aged 35-70 years who may be at increased risk of liver disease based on their medical history.

Visitors can expect to receive a quick non-invasive and painless test, known as a FibroScan, from a trained nurse, which checks for signs of inflammation or scarring of the liver.

You must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • You have an alcohol intake greater than 14 units per week
  • You have type 2 diabetes or are pre-diabetic
  • You have a known or suspected fatty liver
  • You are overweight
  • You currently have, or have previously had, a blood borne virus (Hepatitis B or C)

You must refrain from eating or drinking two hours before the appointment, apart from water.
