Privacy and Dignity

Royal Surrey County Hospital is committed to providing privacy and dignity to all its patients and we are proud to confirm that there is a zero tolerance to the mixing of men and women in sleeping accommodation.

The commitment to the delivery of same sex accommodation is evidenced by a clear commitment and championing of same sex accommodation from Board to Ward.

If your care is delivered in an area where there is mixed sex accommodation eg Intensive Care Unit / Coronary Care Unit every effort will be made by all our staff to respect your privacy and dignity and move you when it is clinically safe to do so.

Since 2009, here has been substantial financial investment from the Trust and from the Department of Health’s Privacy & Dignity Challenge Fund. As a result of this investment all in- patient wards are composed of either

  • mixed sex wards with same sex bays and single rooms
  • or same sex wards, as in Maternity

All wards have female, male and disabled toilet and bathroom facilities.
