Taste of Medicine Day

sixth form students attending taste of medicine day

Almost 30 wannabe medics keen to take up a future in healthcare were given a taste of real life in a hospital this week. The annual event, which is offered to local sixth formers, gives them a chance to hear about career pathways and get some hands-on training experience.

It was organised by Chrissie Beard our Voluntary Services Manager, Sarah Allen, Voluntary Services Co-ordinator, and led by Mr James Nutt, Orthopaedic Consultant.

Chrissie said: “The programme is designed to provide an insight into not only a career in medicine but some of the services and therapies that support our patients. We are extremely grateful for the support of our colleagues, who generously come along and share their expertise and advice.”

The event heard from some of our resident doctors about their personal journeys into medicine and insights into physiotherapy and occupational therapy careers. It also gave the group the chance to use the robotic surgery simulators, learn basic life support, interview skills and what to look for when choosing a university.

Jessica was among those who attended. She said: “It was great to hear first-hand what career opportunities there are and what the pathways are to get there. It's been inspiring.”
