One of Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust's consultant surgeons has been recognised for his outstanding contributions to improving patient outcomes and strengthening the NHS.
Mr Murthy Kusuma, consultant urologist and robotic surgeon, has been awarded the prestigious National Clinical Impact Award (NCIA).
The award recognises doctors who have made a sustained contribution to healthcare beyond their routine clinical duties, demonstrating measurable impact at a regional or national level.
Mr Kusuma is a renowned urological surgeon who specialises in robotic prostatectomy and cystectomy, with a strong track record of clinical excellence.
Research has been a defining feature of his career, including awards for the MASTERY trial, leadership of the GRACE trial, and collaborations with major international groups that have produced widely read and highly cited publications.
He also plays a significant role in education, training and mentoring surgeons, teaches at the University of Surrey, and supports the development of the new Medical School. In addition, Mr Kusuma has contributed to national and international clinical guidance and patient information resources.
Commenting on the achievement, Mr Dimitrios Moschonas, Clinical Director of Urology at Royal Surrey, said: “We are extremely proud to have Mr Kusuma as part of the Royal Surrey Urology team. This award reflects not only his personal achievements, but also the collaborative culture and clinical ambition of our Trust.”
Mr Kusuma said: “Receiving this award is both humbling and motivating. It is a reflection of teamwork rather than an individual achievement, and I am particularly grateful to the whole Urology team at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust and to the patients who place their trust in us.
“For me, it reinforces a commitment to continuous improvement, collaboration, and striving to deliver the highest standards of care.”
