Allied Health Professionals & Technical - Ireena Sukanthan | Staff Governors

I am an Orthoptist, treating vision development and eye movement problems, and a Lead Clinical Tutor at the Royal Surrey.

I trained at Université Paris-Sorbonne and worked in Paris Hospitals prior to joining the Royal Surrey in 2007. I work closely with various departments Ophthalmology, Paediatrics, Maxilo-Facial, Stroke and Oncology.

My role gives me the opportunity to treat, help and advise patients, carers and colleagues but also to train future Orthoptists. I am as passionate now about Orthoptics as I was when I started and really live by the “Patient First” principles.

I live locally with my two young children and my husband, who also works at the Royal Surrey.

As a Staff governor, I would like to use my experiences, as a clinician and as a patient, to continue being an advocate for our patients and their families, and to be a voice for colleagues, ensuring the Trust continues to provide the highest quality patient care.
