The Royal Surrey County Hospital and the Jarvis Breast Screening and Diagnostic Centre in Guildford are taking part in a £1.6 million multi-centre trial of a new breast imaging machine, which has the potential to detect breast cancer earlier than before.

The Pritchett and Quddoos families, with the support of The Rotary Club of Ripley and Send, presented a new vital signs monitor to the Royal Surrey’s Maternity Unit.

On the 31^st October, the Royal Surrey officially opened the refurbished Transitional Care Unit at the hospital.  The unit is based on the postnatal Shere Ward and allows babies who need extra support to be nursed next to their mum.

The Royal Surrey has been given a very generous donation of £100,000 from the Friends of Cobham Hospital to go towards the new Endoscopy Suite that is currently being built at the Trust.

Last week staff from across the Royal Surrey gathered at Guildford County School to celebrate the 2011 Staff Recognition Awards.  It was a full house with staff and patients coming together to celebrate the outstanding work of their colleagues and clinicians over the last 12 months.

Monday 27^th June saw the opening of a brand new Eye Unit at the Royal Surrey County Hospital.   The new unit was pleased to welcome Mrs Lovell, who was also celebrating her 105th birthday, as their first patient.

Innovative equipment allowed specialist consultant to assess patient from home.  Victoria Otham, 20 from Epsom, received emergency thrombolysis treatment, following a stroke, thanks to the use of innovative equipment at the Royal Surrey.

The Royal Surrey Maternity Unit are holding a friendly, informal forum for Mums and Dads, who have recently been cared for by them, to share their experience of pregnancy and birth. The sessions are being held at the Bellfields Childrens Centre, from 1.30 – 2.30pm on 9^th August, 7^th October and 9^th December.
