Details
Most of the sleep information available online, on social media and
presented by “Sleep Experts” is not regulated or evidence based. In
fact, much of the available information is actually contrary to the
physiological norms of a newborn baby. These often, unrealistic
expectations lead to more stress and heartache for parents.
At the Royal Surrey Hospital, we pride ourselves on
providing evidence-based, reliable, and realistic information
facilitated by fully qualified, specialist, health care professionals
so we have teamed up with Durham University to support you.
The Durham Infancy & Sleep Centre is one of the leading research
centres for parent-infant sleep in the world. Led by Professor Helen
Ball and home to a group of researchers examining infant sleep and
parenting behaviour. In collaboration with Possums & Co, they have
created Sleep, Baby & You; an evidence based programme, which
trains health practitioners to address parental requests for support
around infant sleep issues within NHS settings.
Sleep, Baby & You seeks to empower parents by providing
information on what to expect regarding infant sleep, how normal sleep
develops, and how to adjust to the demands of normal infant sleep
Having completed the training our Specialist Parent Education
Midwives are qualified to share their knowledge regarding baby sleep
and dispel the many myths surrounding “sleep training”.
We invite you to attend our free Sleep, Baby and You Workshop in
pregnancy to help prepare you a head of life with a newborn. We warmly
welcome partners to attend this course with you. There will also be
time to answer your questions.
The Sleep, Baby & You Workshop includes a digital antenatal
parent leaflet created by the Durham Infancy Sleep Centre, which you
will be able to access via the Sleep, Baby and You info pack. The
leaflet is only available to class attendees.
Your ticket enables you and your birth parter to attend the session
together on the same device.
