Nursing and Midwifery - Sue Herson

Nursing and Midwifery - Sue Herson

I qualified as a nurse at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, London.  Since qualifying I have had experience working in Cardio-thoracic Intensive Care, Gastro Intestinal surgery, High Dependency in the private sector, but mainly my nursing career has been within Critical Care at the Royal Surrey County Hospital.

I currently work at the Royal Surrey County Hospital as the Matron of Critical Care.  My aim as Matron is to lead the Critical Care with passion, commitment and integrity.  High quality patient care is central to everything that we do, and I aim to ensure that the best standards of care are always implemented.  The Critical Care team are the proud winners of the 2017 Royal Surrey Stars – Patients Choice Award 2017 (voted for by patients).

As a Staff Governor, I will aim to ensure that the voice of the nursing staff is heard.  I feel very strongly that the nursing views are absolutely necessary to be represented within the Board and that staff are kept well informed and updated of the latest Trust issues.  Within my role as a Matron I have exposure of corporate strategies and issues, and am able to relate this to any impact on the nursing staff.  I am extremely proud to be part of the Royal Surrey team, and I look forward to my role as Staff Governor.
