We take pride in delivering high quality training in our department. The entire consultant body is formally trained in Educational Supervision and actively participates in teaching, exam support, appraisal, mentoring and pastoral support.

The department delivers 2-3 PLEAT days per year and we actively encourage trainees to attend the regional PLEAT days.

We have piloted our first SIM day and looking to bolster regular delivery of these training opportunities.

The Trust holds several Educational Half Days with breakout sessions in to each specialty.

The Trust is in the process of strengthening links with the University of Surrey which will make available opportunities in research involvement and participation.

Medical staffing consists of the following:

The department runs a consultant of the week (COW) system with round the clock resident consultant delivered care with the exception of weekend night shifts only. This allows improved patient care and satisfaction, enhanced supervision of trainees and numerous training opportunities.

We actively encourage our more senior trainees to get involved and gain management experience through participation in clinical audit, guideline revision, Paediatric and Neonatal M&M meetings, Paediatric Business meetings, rota organisation, Neonatal steering groups meetings, A & E steering group meetings and Safeguarding processes.


Faculty Leadozan

Dr Ozan Hanci (Consultant Paediatrician and Faculty Lead). I trained as an undergraduate at St. Georges Hospital Medical School and undertook my paediatric training in both the South and North Thames rotations. I was appointed a Resident Consultant at Royal Surrey County Hospital in April 2014. I have a PGC in Public Health Nutrition and I am currently working towards an MSc in Clinical Nutrition. My interests are in paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, nutrition and medical education.
