Orthodontics

Orthodontics is a specialist branch of dentistry, concerned with the growth of the teeth, jaws and the face. Orthodontic management aims to create a healthy, functioning bite. In the hospital setting the scope of Orthodontic treatment is limited to the management of more complex cases that may not be suitable for treatment in primary care such as cleft palate, complex jaw discrepancies and patients with special medical needs.

What we do

  • Orthodontic out-patient diagnostic and treatment services
  • Orthodontic Treatment for complex cases IOTN 4 and 5 and multidisciplinary cases
  • Orthognathic Clinics for treatment of facial deformity with maxillofacial surgeons
  • Cleft clinics: The orthodontic unit is part of the South Thames cleft service. There are regular multidisciplinary cleft clinics per month when team members from the central cleft service visit Guilford. Orthodontic treatment is carried out at RSCH
  • Joint planning clinics with the Consultant restorative dentist
  • Joint planning clinics with paediatric dentists
  • Teaching Department with Orthodontic Registrars and Therapists
