The Maxillofacial and Orthodontic Laboratory provides a high quality service to surgeons, clinicians and patients with bespoke prostheses and dental appliances.
The four members of staff who provide this service are:
Adrian Kearns MIMPT DPS – Principal Maxillofacial Prosthetist / Laboratory Manager
Christopher Turner FOTA – Lead Orthodontic Technician
Richard Eggleton FIMPT – Maxillofacial Prosthetist
Ross Kaighin MOTA – Senior Dental Technician
All Prosthetists and Technicians are registered with the Institute of Maxillofacial Prosthetists and Technologists (IMPT), and the General Dental Council (GDC) where applicable.
The Laboratory is registered with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to manufacture custom-made medical devices.

Maxillofacial Prosthetists provide a wide variety of devices including:
- Facial prostheses – these can be implant retained
- Auricular prostheses Nasal prostheses
- Orbital prostheses
- Nipple areola prostheses
- Digit prostheses
- Artificial eyes
- Keloid splints
- Contour defect prostheses
- Trauma and surgical splints
- Sleep apnoea devices
- Jaw surgery (Osteotomy) and Facial or Craniofacial surgical planning
- Burns splints

Direct referrals from GP’s are welcomed and new patients will have an initial consultation with Mr Mike Bater, Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon prior to the commencement of treatment.
The maxillofacial prosthetic service does not have a waiting list so patients will be seen quickly and are reviewed as appropriate.
Our Orthodontic/Dental technicians manufacture a wide variety of bespoke dental devices to prescription from Royal SurreyCounty Hospital clinical staff such as:
- Removable and fixed orthodontic appliances
- Removable and fixed dentures
- Intra-oral splints
