Ophthalmologists from across the region descended on Royal Surrey County Hospital for their annual conference.

The Trust was invited to host to the Southern Ophthalmological Society for the first time on January 27, 2017.

More than 80 ophthalmologists and 14 specialist organisations took part in the event, which featured a guest lecture from Professor David Crabb of City University.

Local opticians were also in attendance to help strengthen our community eye care links.

The Trust also invited 14 patients with complex and rare cases to participate in a grand round, which saw their particular medical condition and treatment presented to the audience of consultants, junior doctors and trainees.

The event raised £4,200 for the unit’s equipment fund.

Consultant Ophthalmologist Dan Lindfield said: “We were honoured to be asked to host the Southern Ophthalmological Society.

“The annual meetings provide an opportunity for doctors to come together and share their knowledge and experiences.

“Gathering specialists in different fields from across the South to discuss and learn from challenging diseases helps both our patients and our clinicians”
