Louise Stead, Ceo Update from our CEO, Louise Stead

Throughout this pandemic, we have continued to be available to our patients who need ongoing, immediate, urgent and emergency care. We made a wide range of adjustments in a short space of time to ensure we could continue to safely see our patients. This has included introducing extensive use of telephone and video appointments, rearranging many of our wards and screening patients when they arrive so we can keep patients with and without Covid-19 apart.

While the number of seriously ill patients with Covid-19 in the hospital continues to follow the national downward trend, we know that the Coronavirus will be with us for some time yet. Our teams are therefore working hard to make adjustments to both the way we work and our hospital environment to enable us to increase the number of patients we can see and treat.

This includes:

  • continuing to provide telephone and video consultations, where possible and appropriate
  • reducing the number of patients who are seen face-to-face at the same time
  • adjusting waiting rooms and clinic rooms, to enable social distancing to be followed
  • introducing a one-way system in some corridors, to support social distancing when walking between areas
  • continuing to offer a ‘drive thru’ service for some services (such as maternity and pharmacy).

If you, or someone you know, needs medical attention but have been reluctant to come forward, please be assured that GP, community and hospital services are still available. You may not be seen in the same way as you have in the past, but we are still here and can see you safely.

I would like to end by saying a huge thank you to everyone who has supported our staff – either through kind words, pictures and thoughts or donations – it has meant so much.

Thank you.
