Transient Ischaemic attack (TIA) at Royal Surrey County Hospital (RSCH) and Frimley Park Hospital (FPH)

RSCH and FPH Stroke services now work together to provide rapid access assessment for people with suspected TIA. Referrals can be emailed to a TIA inbox that is reviewed daily.  The rapid access TIA clinic is based at FPH (G7 outpatient area) and provides brain and carotid imaging on the same day as the clinic appointment.  Patients are generally advised to attend early in the morning and can expect to be on site for the morning whilst they receive their tests and wait to have these reviewed with the clinician of the day.

Please use the updated TIA referral form and complete this is fully as you can to allow the information to be screened and triaged promptly. The stroke team aim to review people with suspected TIA as soon as possible and within 24 hours where indicated.  If symptoms have been over one week at time of referral people may be seen within a 1-2 week window.

The TIA clinic is managed by the G7 staff who will liaise directly with the patient to coordinate the timing and date to attend for the assessment. If you require a more rapid (same day) response to your enquiry it would be best to speak directly with the Stroke coordinator of the day.

Please do highlight if travelling to FPH is difficult or not possible for a specific reason. We do have some clinic space for people to be evaluated at RSCH but this will be without same day imaging and cases needed to be allocated appropriately.

At the RSCH we hold a follow up clinic for people with Stroke to be further reviewed at 6-8 weeks post stroke. There is some capacity for other people to be reviewed in these clinics; for example if they do not meet the criteria for a rapid access TIA assessment but an opinion from the stroke team would still be helpful for diagnosis or longer term management.  Referrals made for the rapid TIA clinic deemed less urgent on triage may be reallocated to this clinic also.
