The ToC programme is the new process by which international adaptation nurses can convert their current local nursing registration so that they can practice in the UK. This replaces the current ONP programme.
Simply put, International adaptation nurses will undertake the following process;
1. The international nurse will apply to the NMC to undergo the ToC process. Upon assessment of the application, the NMC will accept allow the nurse to undergo a computer based exam (undertaken locally to the international nurse).
2. Upon successful completion of the exam, the nurse will be offered a date where they can attend a practical Test of Competent assessment at the Northampton University.
3. At this point the nurse can be brought to the UK by a sponsoring NHS Trust to prepare for the ToC assessment (a single day assessment). Current rules dictate that the nurse must undertake the first assessment within 12 weeks of arriving in the UK. The nurse will then have up to 3 further attempts to pass the ToC assessment should they fail the first attempt
