In the week before Christmas, our paediatric patients enjoyed a very special surprise visit from the Harlequins Rugby Union team.

Members of the famous team came along to the hospital to meet some of our youngest patients and to hand out some Harlequins merchandise as early Christmas presents.

As well as visiting our children’s ward and posing for photos, they also visited our maternity department and Special Care Baby Unit.

Here they learnt about our charity’s Closer to Care campaign, which will enable parents to stay overnight with their unwell babies at the hospital, instead of having to go through the trauma of separation.

Katy Lucas, Maternity Matron, said, “Both patients and staff really enjoyed having the merry visitors and it definitely gave everyone a boost.

“A big thank you to the team for taking some time out to visit us and bring some Christmas cheer.”

Harlequins are a top tier UK rugby team, who train locally to the Royal Surrey.
