Consultant Oncologist awarded for guiding medical research studies

Congratulations to Consultant Medical Oncologist, Dr Agnieszka Michael, who has received the University of Surrey’s Vice Chancellor’s Award as Postgraduate Research Supervisor of the Year. This was for her outstanding work supervising MD and PhD medics.

The award recognises Dr Michael for creating a supportive, stimulating and inspirational research environment for doctors who undertake postgraduate research (MD or PhD) at the University of Surrey.

One of Dr Michael students who nominated her said; “She encourages you to believe in yourself and be the best version of yourself. Her quiet measured way puts you instantly at ease and yet she ensures you work hard and stick to realistic targets, always encouraging you to achieve as much as possible.”

In the nomination brochure, the university highlighted that, ‘Dr Michael’s nomination offers a portrait of a calm, focused and supportive supervisor, dedicated to her students as to her patients in clinical work. She was commended for combining empathy with intellect and a practical, problem-solving approach.’

Dr Michael said: “I am delighted to receive this Vice-Chancellor’s Award. I get a huge amount of satisfaction from helping doctors to pursue their interest in research and consider it a privilege to work with such talented medics who are dedicated to improving patient care through research.”
