What to do when your in labour

When the time comes, you are unlikely to mistake the signs of labour. If you are in any doubt, please contact maternity department who will be able to advise you.

Strong, regular contractions and a ‘show’ are the main signs that labour is starting. A ‘show’ is when the plug of mucus from your cervix comes away.

Your waters breaking, backache and an urge to go to the toilet, which is caused by your baby’s head pressing on your bowel, are other signs to look out for.

If you think that you are in labour call 01483 464133 and to speak to a midwife. Please contact us before coming in, so that we can ensure a room is ready for your arrival.

If you are NOT in labour but are worried or want advice, please call 01483 464147 and a midwife will be able to advise you over the phone.
