Dr Andrew Davies, a Cancer specialist at Royal Surrey has been elected as the next President of one of the world’s leading medical associations promoting supportive care for patients living with the disease.
Dr Davies, who is Royal Surrey’s speciality lead for Supportive and Palliative Care, will take up his role as President of the Multinational Association for Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) in 2020.
He is the first UK president of the organisation which is dedicated to research and education in all aspects of supportive care for people with cancer regardless of the stage of their disease.
“It’s a great honour to represent MASCC,” said Dr Davies. ‘The organisation plays a vital role in promoting the multi-disciplinary prevention and management of the adverse effects of cancer and its treatment. Its members include oncologists, hygienists, psychologists and educators.’
Dr Davies will be the first Supportive and Palliative Care Consultant to hold the role. He is also the Scientific Chair for the MASCC annual meeting for 2019 and 2020.
