I need to establish whether

1. any of your Hospital Trust surgeons repair hernias without using mesh implants? – In general surgery, we treat a wide variety of hernias. Many of these do not require use of a mesh implant.

2. any of your hernia surgeons remove mesh that is causing complications? – All of our General Surgeons are competent to remove mesh causing complications in the abdominal wall; site-specific (eg. colorectal/OG) issues with mesh would be handled by the appropriate speciality team.

3. any of your Hospital Trust surgeons repair without using mesh implants in the following areas?

Please specify which surgeon specialises in each of the following areas:-

A. Womb – Gynae-oncology surgeons, see below.

B. Bladder – Gynae-oncology surgeons, see below.

C. Vagina – Gynae-oncology surgeons, see below.

The Gynae-oncology surgeons (Mr Butler-Manuel, Mr Chatterjee, Miss Ellis and Mr Tailor) may repair hernias without the use of mesh on occasion when there is a pre-existing hernia in a patient with Gynaecological cancer.

D. Rectum – Colorectal team manage rectal disorders requiring operative treatment. Colorectal surgeons are Mr I Jourdan, Professor T Rockall, Mr A Scala and Mr J Stebbing.

E. Bowel – Colorectal team – Mr I Jourdan, Professor T Rockall, Mr A Scala and Mr J Stebbing.

4. any of your surgeons remove mesh that is causing complications from the following areas?

Again, please specify each surgeon alongside their specialism separately.

A. Womb – No.

B. Bladder – No.

C. TVT /TVTo/vaginal – No.

D. Rectum – Colorectal team – Mr I Jourdan, Professor T Rockall, Mr A Scala and Mr J Stebbing.

E. Bowel – Colorectal team – Mr I Jourdan, Professor T Rockall, Mr A Scala and Mr J Stebbing.
