For each year between 2009 and up-to the end of 2017, how many babies born under your trust were born to drug dependent mothers and once born, were transferred to a drug treatment programme to wean them off their addiction?
Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust does not hold data centrally prior to 2016 and can provide the following information for years 2016 and 2017 on babies born to drug dependent mothers:
1st Jan 2017 – 31st Dec 2017 = 18 pregnant mothers with known current substance misuse (unprescribed substances including alcohol)
1st Jan 2016 – 31st Dec 2016 = 14 pregnant mothers with known substance misuse (unprescribed substances including alcohol)
RSCH does not keep statistics on which babies then go on to need medication for withdrawal. All babies born to mothers with known substance misuse are monitored for drug withdrawal symptoms as are babies of mothers on prescribed medication.
