The brave 33-year-old is now preparing to shave her head in order to raise money for Royal Surrey County Hospital’s Onslow Ward, where much of her late husband’s treatment took place.
Lucy’s husband Dave passed away in July this year following a two year battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
During Dave’s finally days, staff at Royal Surrey helped the couple tie the knot in a ‘memorable’ ceremony, after transforming a dull meeting room into a makeshift chapel.
“The wedding was such a memorable day and both Dave and I were completely overwhelmed by the efforts the staff went to,” said Lucy from Farnborough, Hants.
“As well as the incredible wedding we also received two years of wonderful care and support from the hardworking staff and I simply wanted to give something back.
“The head shave was suggested by Dave’s niece Steffanie, who will also be taking part.”
Sarah Ferris, the Trust’s Head of Fundraising, said: “We would like to thank Lucy, her family and her friends for supporting Royal Surrey.”
Lucy and Steffanie Austin will be completing the charity head shave at the Alexandra Public House in Farnborough on November 26 at 4pm, with all proceeds going to Royal Surrey.
