Guildford MP and Royal Surrey Chief Executive pound streets to launch Urology Centre fundraising appeal

Anne Milton, the MP for Guildford and Minister for Public Health, and Nick Moberly, Chief Executive of the Royal Surrey County Hospital, will lead a fifteen mile run this Saturday (12^th March) to mark the official launch of the fund raising appeal for a new Urology Centre at Royal Surrey County Hospital. They will be joined by supporters of the Surrey-based Prostate Project charity as they begin the campaign to raise £2 million towards building the centre.

MP Anne Milton is a patron of the Prostate Project charity and a former nurse with a particular passion for this campaign.

Anne Milton comments;

“This is an incredible opportunity to both raise awareness of the threat of prostate cancer and to encourage Surrey people to support the building of a one stop urological facility for the diagnosis and treatment of an estimated 12,000 patients each year. We have world class urology consultants at the Royal Surrey and this centre will provide exceptional facilities to help them work with maximum efficiency.”

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer killer of men in the UK and yet high levels of ignorance remain across the population. Each year approximately 35,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in this country and some 10,000 die each year from the disease. Early diagnosis and rapid treatment is vital to improving survival rates.

The new centre is a joint project between the Prostate Project charity and the Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

This campaign is about delivering a true centre of urological excellence for treating both men and women with urological problems. The run will begin at the Cranleigh Leisure Centre at 9am and will finish at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford at around 12.30pm.
