The Urology Department at the Royal Surrey County Hospital provides general and specialist urological services to patients in Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire and beyond. It is widely regarded regionally and nationally as a leading centre for introducing innovative and minimally invasive treatments for urological patients.
Specialised urological services centre on the delivery of care to prostate patients. It is an internationally recognised centre for prostate brachytherapy having treated more than 1000 patients. Similar numbers have been treated by laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. Cryotherapy and HIFU (high intensity focused ultrasound) have also been introduced.
Consultant-led Andrology services are also provided at the Trust dealing with the management of patients with erectile dysfunction, male infertility, Peyronie’s disease and hormonal problems. Specialised penile cancer service for the region is also located at the Royal Surrey.
With its close links to the Minimal Access Therapy Unit (MATTU) and the Postgraduate Medical School at the University of Surrey, the Department is closely involved in scientific and clinical research.
The Department is staffed by four Consultant Urological Surgeons, one Specialist Registrar, one Associate Specialist, two F2 and two F1 trainee doctors and three GPs with specialist interest and training in Urology provide outpatient and diagnostic care. The Department also has a team of seven specialist nurses who provide care and support to general urological and cancer patients.
