Speech and Language Therapy

The team at the Royal Surrey provide a service for adult patients who have  difficulties with speaking, communicating and/or swallowing. This may be due to a variety of causes such as stroke, trauma, surgery, Radiotherapy or disease.

  • Assessment and management of adult inpatients at the RSCH
  • Rapid Response service for initial assessment of patients with swallowing difficulties (aim to see within 4 hours of referral)
  • Specialist service to inpatients with Stroke
  • Specialist service for patients with tumours of the Brain or Central Nervous System
  • Specialist service for patients with Head & Neck cancer including outlying Consultant clinics at Frimley, St Peters, Basingstoke and East Surrey Hospitals (Macmillan Aftercare Rehabilitation Service)
  • Surgical Voice Restoration service for laryngectomees
  • Specialist service for patients with voice disorders including Gender Reassignment
  • Videofluoroscopy clinic (with Radiology) for specialist assessment of patients with swallowing disorders
