Domiciliary and ambulant oxygen assessment

Domiciliary and ambulant oxygen assessment

Our outpatient service, for the assessment of patients for supplemental oxygen, is run by specially trained respiratory nurses and physiotherapists.

Earlobe blood tests are used, which are accurate and provide a comfortable method of assessing blood oxygen levels.
Patients who require long term oxygen at home are followed-up regularly both at home and in outpatients.

Assessment for ambulatory oxygen, which can be used during exercise and exertion, is undertaken by our rehabilitation team. Those patients who benefit are provided with portable oxygen devices (cylinders or liquid oxygen) and oxygen conservers.

Oxygen is only of benefit if blood oxygen levels are low. Oxygen does not reduce shortness of breath and if given without assessment when it is not required can be dangerous.

Our team are easily accessible to answer any questions or worries.
