About the department

The Nuclear Medicine Department is located within the St Luke’s Wing of the Royal Surrey County Hospital.

It provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients from the hospital and from referring doctors outside the hospital and Trust.

The department is responsible for the Regional Radiopharmacy and provides a service to four other hospitals.

The Department is headed by the consultant Nuclear Physician and is staffed by:

  • Seven Physicists
  • Five Radiographers
  • Four Radiopharmacy Technicians
  • Three Clerical Staff
  • One Physics and One Computing Undergraduate
  • Trainees are also constantly circulating through the department

The physicists also provide the scientific support to other hospitals in the area with Nuclear Medicine.

Where is the Nuclear Medicine department?

The Nuclear Medicine Department is situated in the St Luke’s Wing of the hospital on Level A.

From the front entrance of St Luke’s Wing, turn immediately to the right and go down the stairs or in the lift to Level A. Follow the signs around the corner to the right then turn left to Nuclear Medicine.

From the back of the hospital go straight through the St Luke’s Cancer Centre reception area and down the corridor. At the end turn left and follow the signs to Nuclear Medicine.

From the Main Entrance of the hospital on Gill Avenue:
Go through the main entrance hall of the hospital, turn left and follow the signs to St Luke’s Wing. You will pass the “Orthodontic Department” on your right and find the lift and stairs a little further on your left. Descend to Level A and follow the signs around to the right for Nuclear Medicine.

Car parking

There is a patient car park at the back of the hospital near the St Luke’s wing. This can be accessed from Egerton Road. This car park is ‘Pay and Display’. Do not park in the staff parking areas.

There is also a visitor’s car park at the front of the hospital. A ticket is issued at the entrance barrier. Please take the ticket with you and use it in the pay machines located inside the main entrance of the hospital when you are ready to leave the car park.
