Orthopaedics

We undertake inpatient physiotherapy assessment and treatment for orthopaedic patients, both planned elective procedures and trauma from accidents and falls. 

Elective procedures undertaken at Royal Surrey County Hospital include;

• Total Hip Replacement
• Total Knee Replacement
• Knee/Ankle Arthroscopies
• Spinal Decompressions / Discectomy
• Ankle Replacements/Fusion
• Foot Surgery
• Shoulder Surgery

The team consists of a mix of senior and junior physiotherapists, technical instructors and physiotherapy assistants.  

We are based on Bramshott and Ewhurst wards, Surgical Short Stay, Day Surgery Unit and A&E. We also operate an outliers service to pick up any orthopaedic patients located on other wards. 

We are part of the larger multidisciplinary orthopaedic team with 11 consultants and their medical team, nurses, occupational therapists, and the orthogeriatric team.

As a team we are constantly auditing our service to enable improvement.  From November 2009 the orthopaedic physiotherapists have run a seven day service so that elective patients can access physiotherapy everyday.
