A dynamic team of physiotherapists aiming to optimise function following an acute neurological event, e.g. Stroke or for an exacerbation of a long term neurological condition, e.g. Multiple Sclerosis.
We provide patients with a thorough neurological assessment, and based on our findings will establish a treatment / management plan with specific goals which will be discussed with patients and / or carers where possible.
The main aims of Physiotherapy are to:
We may provide exercises, stretches or advice to enable patients to practise outside of treatment times.
We work closely with members of a multi-disciplinary team which may include making referrals to community or rehabilitation teams, if this will be beneficial.
The inpatient neurology physiotherapy team works with patients admitted to the Acute Stroke Unit, and patients admitted to Hindhead Ward with neurological symptoms.
The Royal Surrey County Hospital also offers a specialist neurology physiotherapy outpatient service which is accessed via referrals from GP’s and Consultants.
In June 2009 a new Therapy area was opened on Hindhead ward, which has provided the space and environment to enhance physiotherapy and occupational therapy treatment sessions.
The purchase of a Motomed (as pictured), as an adjunct to physiotherapy treatment, can be used on arms or legs either passively, assisted or actively against resistance.
