Photography & Graphics

Photography & Graphics

Photographic & Graphic Design service to the Trust.

About us

The department provides a clinical/diagnostic and non-clinical photography, videography and an in-house graphic design service.

Clinical photography is used primarily for patient records, teaching purposes and/or publication. Medico-legal work is also undertaken. All of our Clinical Photographers are registered with the Council for the Accreditation of Medical Illustration Practitioners (CAMIP) and are current members of the Institute of Medical Illustrators (IMI). We mainly photograph patients in our dedicated studio, however we also photograph patients in clinic, on the wards and in theatre. The department’s Clinical Photographers are also all trained in ophthalmic imaging, which is undertaken in the ophthalmology department using a variety of specialist equipment and retinal cameras.

Videography for clinical and non-clinical purposes can be undertaken in our studio or on location. We have a variety of cameras, dedicated video lights, audio recording equipment and advanced editing software to produce high quality videos. Video work ideally needs to be booked in advance, so please contact a member of staff to discuss your requirements.

Non-clinical / PR photography can be undertaken in our studio or on location. We photograph staff and equipment for Patient Information Leaflets (PILs), staff portraits, awards and hospital events.

Grahpic design work is primarily for patient records and information, publication, raising public awareness and enhancing patient experience. Design, illustrations and poster printing are also produced in the department.

Information for patients

We are located in the West Wing on Level A; follow the signs to Photography & Graphics.

Your doctor/consultant has asked for some photographs to help monitor and record your treatment and progress.  These photographs are confidential and will be kept in your hospital notes. Images are also stored on our hospital server and can be viewed via our internal image database (restricted access).

You will be asked for your consent before any photographs are taken. Your doctor will explain why the photographs are needed and whether or not they may be used for other purposes, but do not hesitate to ask the medical photographer if you are unsure or need further explanation.
