Royal Surrey Palliative Care Team Win International Award

The Royal Surrey Palliative Care team has won the 2012 International Journal of Palliative Nursing (IJPN) Award for Multidisciplinary Teamwork.   

The awards ceremony took place in London on the 29^th March.  The Royal Surrey team were shortlisted along with palliative care professionals from all over the world; including America, New Zealand, Australia, Chile and the Netherlands. 

They were nominated by Royal Surrey Consultant in Palliative Medicine Dr Andrew Davies for their work over the last year having embraced a series of major developments, with the clinical nurse specialists both individually and collectively leading on specific projects such as the introduction of seven day working, introduction of a triage bleep system to speed up reviews of patients with pain or other symptoms and a review of all patients on the Liverpool Care Pathway within the Trust to ensure uniform, quality end-of-life care.  

Dr Davies, Royal Surrey Consultant in Palliative Care said: 

“I am immensely proud of our team.  They are a huge credit to the Royal Surrey and their profession and very much deserve this award.  The milestones they have achieved over the last year are incredible and on top of their clinical success they are a pleasure to work with every day. ”  

Currently, the specialist palliative care team are taking part in the pilot project to implement the Route to Success which is a Department of Health End of Life Care strategy for acute trusts. The team have also embraced the newly set up palliative care research programme.
