Upper GI (Gastro-Intestinal) Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS)

Graham Pinn, Lizzie Elam and Laura Spring

To help patients and their families cope with the diagnosis of oesophageal (gullet) or stomach cancer and understand the various investigations and treatment options, every patient is assigned a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS).  Each nurse is very experienced in the management of the care for patients with this cancer and their complex issues related to their illness. The CNS:

  • Coordinates the patients’ care
  • Ensures they and their carers are kept fully informed
  • Facilitate prompt investigations
  • Instigate appropriate treatment, admissions or interventions during the patient’s cancer journey.
  • Works closely with all of the referring hospitals in the region and strive to ensure that every patient receives the very highest level of care, both in hospital or at home.

MDT Co-ordinator

Amanda Borlase

A Multi disciplinary Team Co-ordinator organises a group of people made up of specialist surgeons, oncologists, cancer nurse specialists, dieticians, radiologists, pathologists and palliative care nurses.

I pull together all the information on our patients with suspected or confirmed cancer from the many different departments, which is then thoroughly reviewed and discussed at the MDT meeting. I also organise the Network Oesophago-Gastric MDT meeting which involves video conferencing with Frimley Park, Ashford & St Peter’s, Surrey & Sussex & Worthing Hospital.
