Private Maternity Care
Private maternity care provides parents with the knowledge that they will be offered continuity of care throughout the pregnancy by experienced consultant obstetricians. Appointments can be arranged at times to suit you and there is direct access to the consultants’ secretaries if any queries arise.
- All delivery rooms have en suite shower facilities and if requested a birth pool room is available.
- A postnatal private room with en suite shower can be booked guaranteed private single-occupancy room with en-suite bathroom and overnight sleeping facilities for partners.

Private Obstetric care is offered by consultants Lesley Roberts and Mr Abughazza. An initial consultation is suggested to discuss birth options and decide whether private care is right for you.
Private Maternity Care options
Mothers can choose antenatal care only or a fully private delivery for mothers who require an elective caesarean section.
Private Antenatal Care only
Mothers who are booked for an NHS birth at the Royal Surrey County Hospital may choose to have private antenatal care. This option provides continuity of care during the antenatal period with direct access to the consultant for additional queries and the option to request additional consultations if required. Attendance at the birth cannot be guaranteed due to the unpredictable nature of spontaneous labour and NHS commitments that cannot always be changed. Mothers who have been having private antenatal care will inform the consultant when they go into labour. Whenever possible the consultant will attend to provide support to the NHS team providing her care for labour and delivery. Patients booking for private antenatal care will be able to book a private room for the postnatal period in the hospital and partners will be welcome to stay. Information regarding the private rooms will be provided by the maternity matrons.
Private Antenatal Care with delivery by planned elective Caesarean Section
This option provides continuity of care during the antenatal period with direct access to the consultant for additional queries and the option to request additional consultations if required. A date will be booked for the birth and the option to have a ”Natural” Caesarean is possible. Royal Surrey Hospital will provide midwifery care and inform the consultant if under their care attend the hospital out of hours. All out of hours care is provided by the NHS. Mothers booking for a private birth will be guaranteed a private room for the postnatal period in the hospital and partners will be welcome to stay. Information regarding the private rooms will be provided by the maternity matrons.
Private Caesarean delivery only
Mothers who have had antenatal care elsewhere or have already been counselled regarding birth by elective caesarean section can book the delivery only package, this option is subject to availability. Information regarding private rooms for the postnatal period will provided by the maternity matrons.

RSCH Hospital Fees
Hospital fees are separate to those paid for fees for the obstetrician and anaesthetist. A price list is available by contacting the Medical Secretary or Private Patients Manager.
Lesley Roberts is a consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford. She qualified as a nurse and midwife before commencing medical training at Guys Hospital in London. Lesley trained in Obstetric Ulrasound whilst working as a clinical research fellow under the supervision of Professor Kypros Nicolaides at the Harris Birthright Research Centre for Fetal Medicine, Kings College Hospital.
In addition to ultrasound scanning Lesley can provide private antenatal pregnancy care with private delivery at Royal Surrey County Hospital.
Mr Abu-Ghazza graduated from the Moscow Medical Academy I.M. Secheov First Moscow State Medical University in June 1997 and became a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in November 2005. He undertook postgraduate training at the Imperial Healthcare Trust. He has many research publications and is a member of the RCOG menstrual disorder study group. Mr Abu-Ghazza has fifteen years of experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Royal Surrey County Hospital. His special areas of interest include high risk obstetrics, menstrual disorders, endoscopic & pelvic floor surgery, colposcopy and early pregnancy problems.
