This service is provided by Surrey and Borders Partnership Foundation NHS Trust. The Liaison Psychiatry aims at providing a coherent service and to make mental health care a priority for both acute and mental health Trusts.
It is a nurse-led service with working hours being weekdays from 9am–5pm.
Liaison Psychiatry provides holistic psychosocial assessment to determine patients’ mental health needs and presenting risk to themselves or others in line with NICE guidelines for self-harm (2004). Individuals who present to the Emergency Department between 9am and 5pm or those admitted on the wards with other physical health issues, are assessed by a qualified Liaison Psychiatric Nurse and signposted to more appropriate support and mental health services.
The Liaison Psychiatry Service provides a single point of Referral i.e. takes referrals from A & E, MAU and wards only. It constitutes of one nurse for Working Age Adults (18-65yrs) and one for Older Adults (over 65yrs), both working under supervision and support of each speciality Consultant Psychiatrist.
Liaison Psychiatry Referral Pathway is introduced within the Emergency department and wards.
