We make it easier for people with learning disabilities to get the right support in Surrey hospitals.

We help people with a learning disability:

to understand about their health
to understand about their treatment
prepare for hospital visits and hospital stays
to make sure things go well in hospital

We also help hospital staff to understand the needs of people with learning difficulties.

Surrey Acute Hospital Service

The Surrey Hospitals would like to improve their service to people with a learning disability.

They recognise that coming into hospital can be a difficult time, and would like to be able to know how they can help to provide you with service that meets your needs.

They now have nurses in the hospital who understand about learning disabilities .

To help you they need to know that you have a learning disability and you need extra support to understand :-

A) How the hospital will find out what is wrong with you

B) what they will need to do to make it better

C) What you can do to help keep yourself healthy and well

You may need the hospital to adjust things to help you when you come to visit. .For example :-

Easy read appointment letters
Mobility Support
Extra Time at appointments
Calm quiet waiting rooms
