MP Anne Milton and the BBC’s Matt Allwright Officially Open New Maternity Bereavement Suite at the Royal Surrey County Hospital

MP Anne Milton and the BBC's Matt Allwright open the new bereavement suite

Guildford MP Anne Milton and the BBC’s Matt Allwright joined fundraisers from Surrey Sands (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death charity) to officially open the new “Forget-Me-Not” bereavement suite on the maternity ward at the Royal Surrey County Hospital on Friday 4th February.

The new suite has been built with money raised by a group of parents from the Surrey Sands charity.  They raised £48,000 in just two and half years to pay for the new facilities on the maternity ward.  The suite includes a sound-proof delivery area, en-suite shower facilities, separate nursing anteroom and has been sympathetically decorated with furnishings donated by Next.

The Royal Surrey’s Head of Midwifery, Jenny Hughes, said:

“We are extremely grateful to Surrey Sands for providing a homely environment in which we can provide sensitive midwifery, medical and emotional care to women and their families at a time of great loss.  The fundraising efforts have been phenomenal; the ‘Forget-Me-Not’ Suite will make a real difference to the quality of care we can give and the time that families spend with their babies.”
