  • The number of patients with Type 1 diabetes that are currently treated as an outpatient in the hospitals in Royal Surrey County NHS Foundation Trust. 
  • The number of patients with Type 2 diabetes that are currently treated as an outpatient in the hospitals in Royal Surrey County NHS Foundation Trust.

The Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust does not record patients’ conditions centrally when treated in an outpatient centre and cannot provide the breakdown between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

  • The number of patients with Type 1 diabetes in the hospitals in Royal Surrey County NHS Foundation Trust with an Insulin Infusion Pump. 
  • The number of patients with Type 2 diabetes in the hospitals in Royal Surrey County NHS Foundation Trust with an Insulin Infusion Pump. 

The information requested above is not recorded centrally and would require further analysis of individual healthcare records, therefore, the information requested is exempt under Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act since the cost of compliance would exceed the appropriate limit.

For information, between 01-Oct-2016 and 01-Oct-2017 there were 6,529 attendances at diabetes clinics (for 3,390 individual patients).

  • The number of Diabetes Specialist Nurses that are employed in Royal Surrey County NHS Foundation Trust as of the 1st October 2017. Please break down the response to this question by pay band e.g. band 6, band 7. The Trust has the following Diabetes Specialist Nurses:

1 band 7 Diabetes CNS pump nurse full time

1 community Diabetes CNS band 7 on 0.8 WTE (30 hrs)

1 band 6 Diabetes CNS on 0.64 WTE  (24 hours)

1 community band 6 diabetes CNS on  0.6 wte  (22.5 hours)

1 band 6 Diabetes CNS on 0.48 (18 hours)

1 Band 3 health care assistant on 0.8 WTE (30 hours)

1 Band 2 health care assistant on 0.37 WTE (14 hours) 

  • Is structured education for patients with Type 1 diabetes offered within Royal Surrey County NHS Foundation Trust?

Education provided to patients by Diabetes nurses in clinics, and patient group/peer meetings. 

  • The number of patients with Type 1 diabetes that have received structured education within Royal Surrey County NHS Foundation Trust between the period October 1st 2016 to October 1st 2017.
