Royal Surrey staff celebrate a second consecutive "excellent" Annual Health Check result
The Royal Surrey County Hospital is the only general acute hospital in the South East Coast region to have its quality of services rated as ‘Excellent' in the Care Quality Commission's 2008/09 Annual Health Check.
This result means the Royal Surrey is in the top 22% of acute trusts in the country and as a result the Trust has received a personal letter of congratulation from NHS Chief Executive David Nicholson and Care Quality Commission Chair Barbara Young. The letter commends the Trust for delivering sustained high levels of performance throughout 2008/09 and thanks all staff for all that has been done for patients.
In addition the Trust scored a ‘Good' for the second year running for its financial management.
Chief Executive Nick Moberly congratulated staff on the achievement:
"This result is our reward for continuing to deliver the very best for our patients. It recognises the commitment of everyone who works at the Royal Surrey to ensuring that the quality of patient care is the best it can be.
"This last year has seen a great number of changes and improvements. Our major transformation programme Patients First is helping us to provide quicker and more convenient care for patients and reducing the amount of time patients have to spend in hospital. We have also continued with dramatic reductions in our rate of infection and have achieved the 18 weeks GP referral to treatment target across all the specialties.
"This result also confirms to our members and the local community who have shown us a great deal of support, that the Royal Surrey is a hospital with a very bright future and one that continues to deliver first class care for patients. I hope this means that more people will sign up as members as we move towards licensing as a Foundation Trust."
As part of the Annual Health Check, the Trust was given scores for areas that are of most concern and interest to patients and the public. The Trust scored top marks for dignity and respect and keeping the public healthy.
