Cost of Delayed Discharges

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I request the following information for each of the last three calendar years (2012, 2013 and 2014) and for 2015 to date:

1. The gross cost to the Trust due to delayed transfers of care (before taking into account reimbursements from local authorities).

2. The gross cost to the Trust due to delayed transfers of care where Social Care was responsible for the delay (before taking into account reimbursements from local authorities).

The Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust does not routinely collate the above requested information. For information, delays attributable to lack of social care would be negligible since it has been agreed locally that a significant amount of the reimbursement grant that would be paid to the local authority can be used to invest in new service capacity, providing that the number of social care delays are kept within an agreed target figure. It should also be noted that unlike reporting, charging and payment are not mandatory.

3. The total sum received from local authorities in reimbursements for delayed transfers of care.

2012 -£36,840
2013 -£150,832
2014 -£259,848
Grand Total -£447,520

For 2015/16 to M8 the sum received from local authorities was -£32,746

Note: the above income figures all show as negative amounts in the Trust’s ledger.
