I am a retired molecular virologist/medical microbiologist and prior to retirement I worked for the Wellcome Trust, the Chief Scientist’s Group and headed up the U.K. Rabies Research and Diagnostics Group at the Veterinary Laboratory Agency.
Since starting I have undertaken a variety of roles including Chairman of the Governors’ Patient Experience Committee, Member of the Hospital Infection Control Committee, Member of the Nominations Committee, and various other interesting roles associated with quality of patient care. I have recently taken over as Lead Governor and Co-ordinating Governor and I suspect I will be busier than ever in days to come.
The role is endlessly challenging and interesting and does involve significantly more than the four meetings a year we were told it would involve! I have, however, really enjoyed my time as a governor and come to know some really friendly and interesting people. I continue to be inspired by our hardworking and dedicated staff, who strive to provide an excellent quality of care for all patients.
