Ophthalmology covers the full range of services from a very friendly multi-disciplinary eye unit.
The work of the unit includes innovative corneal grafts, cataracts, retinal repair, plastics, squints and general medical conditions such as glaucoma.
The eye unit is led by a team of consultants and all the nurses are specialist Moorfields trained ophthalmology nurses, who are qualified to run clinics.
Patients benefit from one-stop services with same day retinal imaging, photography and test results. The Ophthalmology department consistently meets the 18 weeks target and the average wait for a first appointment is three to four weeks.
Emergency patients can be referred to a direct access clinic between 8.30 and 5.30pm Monday to Friday and all calls to the unit are answered by professionally trained staff. Patients referred out of hours will be dealt with straight away the next day.
Outpatient clinics are held on site from 8am Monday to Friday and at outreach clinics in Cranleigh and Haslemere. A nurse led clinic is run on Saturday mornings from the Royal Surrey.
The unit has close links with local GPs and opticians and provides ophthalmology training and work experience.
