Royal Surrey named a top performer for orthopaedic treatment in the country

Royal Surrey has been named as one of the top six performers in the country for its orthopaedic treatment and outcomes by the Dr Foster Hospital Guide 2010, which launched on line on Sunday 28th November.

The Royal Surrey was the only trust in the South East to be named as a top performer for Orthopaedic treatment and outcomes.

The Hospital Guide measured across six indicators of clinical care for orthopaedics. The Royal Surrey scored particularly well on knee revision rates and Hip fracture operations. In the past 3 years the hospital has had no joint replacement revision procedures within one year on the initial procedure. While 84% of patients with a fractured hip have a related procedure with in two days of primary diagnosis, this is substantially higher than the national average of 65.7%.

Commenting on our recognition Nick Moberly, Chief Executive Said ‘ We have worked very hard over the last two to three years to improve the care and experience of these patients. I am very pleased to see this hard work is paying off as we are now recognised as one of the top performers.’

Over the past year the Royal Surrey has implemented a Fractured Neck of Femur project that looks at the complex path ways of patients coming in to A&E with fractured hips who need surgery.

Over 90% of patients with a fracture are seen, treated and admitted through A&E within 4 hours and 80% are in theatre within 36 hours.
